AUSTIN, TX –
Harden Healthcare employees from Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas surpassed their goal and donated over $7,000 to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The Relay for Life, held on August 15 this year, raises awareness and funds to save lives, help those touched by cancer, and empower people to fight back against the disease.
The Relay for Life includes a celebration of cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), who walk or ride in a wheelchair for one lap around a track. They then relay the race to their friends, family members and supporters, who continue walking throughout the evening. Over 130 Harden employees attended and participated in the relay, making Harden the largest organization represented.
"Thanks to the generosity and dedication of Harden employees, the American Cancer Society can continue to provide lifesaving programs to those in need,” Lew Little, CEO of Harden Healthcare, said. “Once again, Harden employees have surpassed expectations and gone above and beyond for the community they serve."
Several divisions of Harden Healthcare, including Girling Health Care, TRISUN Healthcare, Lighthouse Hospice, Harden Healthcare Services and MBS Rehab, enlisted their own creative ways to raise money. Fundraising activities included a rummage sale, car wash, t-shirt sales, jean day, ticket raffles and dinner services. Each location was represented by a team captain(s) who led the efforts for their group.
"We raised money the good old-fashioned way, working dollar for dollar,” Jason Earle, director of community relations for Harden Healthcare, said. “The success of the Relay for Life would not have been possible without the commitment and support of the employees and the devotion of the team captains involved."
